Miss Rodgers and Mrs Tootill wanted to write a joint blog this week..

Where did this week go? We have absolutely loved every moment in our school this week! We are both very proud of all our students’ achievements and all our staff’s efforts to educate them. There has been a celebration of some inspiring work and we are proud to share this with you here.

On Tuesday in our staff development meeting we welcomed Jo from the mental health charity, MIND who joined us to look at how we can best support our young people’s mental health. The training was warmly received by our amazing staff team. Over the next few weeks, Jo will be carrying out workshops here at Spring Brook Academy with all our students. The message is simple: “You need to look after your mental health as much as you do your physical health.” We will be signposting and encouraging our students to other services that can support them if they are not feeling ok.

Let’s see what our Key Stage 3 Nurture Group have been up to..

The group have completed a lot of work this week finishing the topic of shape in Maths and moving on to measuring angles. In our reading and comprehension lesson the boys are getting involved with reading ‘The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas’. The group have started to paint their names on wooden letters to make a door sign for their rooms..

In Science the group are covering the topic of human reproduction. They are showing a mature attitude while covering this lesson.

In our food technology lesson the group made tuna pasta following a recipe. They used wholemeal pasta and low fat mayonnaise which links into our living skills lessons where we are covering healthy eating. They all worked well and, of course, enjoyed eating it!

Great work in Nurture Group boys, we love the signs that you are making for your rooms.

Year 9 had a very exciting time at Collyhurst and Moston ABC where they were lucky enough to meet British boxing champions Zelfa Barrett and Lyndon Arthur!

Both Key Stages have enjoyed taking part in their Duke of Edinburgh’s Award work this week. Mr Hopkins and his team plan some awe-inspiring trips and tasks for the boys to take part in every week..

Judging by these photos though, we are not sure who has had the most fun this week…..Mr Daly, Mr Riding or the boys?!

We’re really pleased that we now have our new website. We will be developing it over the coming weeks and adding more content – please let us know what you think and if you have any suggestions here.

Have a wonderful weekend everyone and watch this space for the next blogs,
