Hello from a very busy Spring Brook Academy! It has been a while since I last wrote to tell you all about the news here at Spring Brook. We have said goodbye to Mr Smith, our ICT support, who retired at the end of last half term. We wish him a very happy retirement.

This weekend we congratulate our very own Miss Brown on becoming Mrs Burrows. We all wish you and Mr Burrows a happy wedding weekend and we look forward to welcoming you back to school next week.

Let’s have a look at our Nurture Group – they certainly have been busy over the last few weeks..

In living skills the group have used money to give change after buying items. The boys used plastic money to work out the amounts and the change required. The boys all worked independently and produced a great piece of work..

Here is Leo’s finished work..

In food technology the group made gingerbread faces. They all worked independently and safely, following the recipe and staff instructions. Each of the boys produced some biscuits to take home..

Harry and Leo resisted the temptation to eat the Smarties until their biscuits were finished..

In our art and craft lesson the group are making emoji cushions. I can’t wait to see the finished results as they have made a great start..

In PSHE the group discussed how to keep themselves safe on the street; all of the boys joined in the conversation and asked sensible questions.

The boys have worked hard in the mornings with their Maths and English lessons. In Maths the group have challenged themselves with BIDMAS. Harvey E. really loved doing this and even stayed for part of his break to finish the work, asking for more. Harvey and Harry made fortune tellers to test other pupils to see if they could remember the order of BIDMAS.

In food technology the boys made turkey kebabs..

The boys all worked safely and really enjoyed eating them..

The group continued with sewing their emoji cushions in the craft lesson. Boys, they are looking great and I’m looking forward to see them finished! The group have missed Leo this week and are looking forward to his return soon.

We had a visit from Manchester Dogs’ Home, the boys were so excited..

We also hope to visit and work with the Dogs’ Home very closely in the future, helping to walk the dogs. Thanks to Mr Molloy for organising this, the boys loved having the dogs visit school!

Spring Brook Academy enjoyed a whole day celebrating TeenTech  ‘City of Tomorrow’. The students came up with some wonderful ideas, just have a look at their creations..

Thanks to Mr Wood for organising the day, it was so much fun.

Year 9 concluded part of their living skills studies with a camping trip to Golden Valley. It looks like they had a wonderful time..

That’s all for another week at Spring Brook Academy. Enjoy the extra day over the weekend and, Miss Brown, we hope the sun shines for you at your wedding.

Happy weekend everyone,

Miss Rodgers
