Welcome back to a whirlwind of a first week back! It has been a great week with lots of new students and some new staff to welcome into our Spring Brook family. The new students have settled in and really enjoyed the very best of being here at the upper school. Welcome to Kian, Callum, Mitchell, Kieran, Jacob, Joshua and Kyle – you have made a fantastic start to the new term.

Our new staff members are Mr Riddles, Mr Murray, Mr Stewart, Mr Newton and Miss Price. Welcome to the Spring Brook family also – we hope that you have all enjoyed the first week back. We also warmly welcome Mr Southerington who has joined the Key Stage 3 senior leadership team.

This week I have spent time with our new staff and new students. We have already had lots of new referrals into Key Stage 3. I have been more than happy to visit new students in different settings to talk about the possibility of joining our school. Watch this space for our new additions.

Over to our Nurture Group….

It was lovely to meet the new Nurture pupils after the summer holidays. One of the first tasks we did was to discuss the classroom expectations. The boys as a group said what rules they wanted, coming up with excellent ideas. These have been put up around the classroom and can be used as reminders..

The group look very smart in their new uniforms and have settled in to the routine of the Nurture lessons..

Kieran was very helpful explaining which numbers should be rounded up or down in one of our Maths lessons..

The group have attended out of class lessons, with lots of positive feedback from other members of staff..

As a group, the boys have helped each other settle in, and at the end of lessons any free time is used to complete a class jigsaw..

Well done boys, you have had a great first week.

SBA 1 Miss Price and Miss Davies

In SBA1 we welcomed Harvey, Harry, Leo and Namal into Year 8. They were excited to see that they still had Miss Davies as their TA alongside a new teacher, Miss Price! The first few days Miss Price was enjoying the last days of her holiday whilst Miss Davies started the term with the boys supported by Mr Stewart. They came in very excited to explain what they had done over the holidays so we started off with an English task to describe what they had done..

In Maths they looked at currency around the world – Harvey is looking to collect a coin/note from every country in the world! The boys did very well and worked well as a group to help each other out..

They also did some times tables, seeing what they retained over the 6 week holidays and it’s fair to say, we have some incredibly smart boys!

Then we finished the week off with some money handling skills to test the boys, they definitely know what change they should get from the shop!

In PSHE, the boys completed some ‘All about me’ booklets for Miss Price. We also created a group booklet with a collaboration of the boys’ favourite things. Here is our SBA1 mascot, ‘Brook Springs’..

We welcomed Miss Price into the classroom on Friday and as the boys had been so good all week, we spent the morning celebrating in assembly, collecting their certificates, then with some social and emotional games to build relationships with Miss Price..

Miss Davies would just like to say “Well done boys, you have had a fantastic first week and been a pleasure to teach. Keep up the good work and have an amazing weekend.”

I am very proud of SBA1 – they have had a great week and have shown lots of maturity. Even when I have popped my head in to check their learning they have been on task and working hard. Well done boys, I think you have earned yourselves a class reward for Monday.

So here we are the end of the first week of a new academic year. I feel very positive about lots of exciting new developments here at Spring Brook Academy.

Embrace change. Envision what could be, challenge the status quo, and drive creative destruction – Charles Koch

On that note, enjoy your weekend. Watch this space for the next blog.
