I am writing this penultimate blog looking at packing boxes as we prepare to leave Dean Street. It has been a brilliant journey and one that has had a massive impact upon me – both professionally and personally. However, more about that next week.
My week began with celebrations and finished on a sad note. At the beginning of the week, I attended the Employability Awards for the New Bridge Group. It was brilliant to see many young people who I have taught, with the employers who have given our students opportunities to see what the world of work is really like. I was so proud to see two Springboard students, Chloe and Corey, who have attended a successful placement at the Atrium Café. This is Mr Lyons, Head of New Bridge, with Liam, a former student..
Later on in the week, Mr Pidlyskyj and I were invited to afternoon tea at the House of Commons. This was a New Schools Network event and it was to celebrate all the schools opening in September. It was a hot day and it was brilliant to see inside the Houses of Parliament and to see various places in Westminster. We are hoping next year to take students as part of their PSCHE curriculum.
We have had 2 Duke of Edinburgh expeditions out this week – Mr Molloy’s group and Mr Hopkins’ – Bronze and Silver. More about that to come in Mr Hopkins’ blog.
The Springboard building is coming together nicely and I visited site last week with two new students who will be joining us in September. The kitchen is now being installed and the rooms are really taking shape..

I will be writing to all parents and carers next week about the first week in our new building. All exciting stuff!
Finally, Mr Southerington and I were deeply shocked by the passing of Kyle. We were both fortunate to have taught Kyle and looked after him pastorally. It is safe to say, he was a real character and both of us had the privilege of going on both residentials with him and I actually took him to Lords Cricket Ground – although the highlight of this trip was meeting Roy Keane on the train home. Our thoughts go out to Steve, Helen and Rosie.
Our week ended on a good note as Marcel and Ewan attended their first prom at New Bridge (with dates). Both boys looked so smart and had a brilliant night. Thanks to everyone who supported them.
So that’s it for this week. Get ready for my emotional blog next week when it is time to say good-bye to Dean Street.
