Welcome back and Happy New Year 2020. Christmas and actual New Year seem like a distant memory. I hope that you all had a relaxing time over the holiday period. It is an exciting time starting a new year, let alone a new decade. Lots of us will make promises to ourselves that we cannot keep, some of us will have made New Year’s resolutions that may be unrealistic. I wonder, if you could change one thing this year, what would it be?
Looking at the news and the devastation in Australia, I have decided to become more conscious of my own carbon footprint. I will reduce, reuse and recycle as much as possible. What is your New Year promise ?
We have had a mixed start back to the term here at Dean Street, however, in assembly today there was lots to celebrate so well done to everyone who achieved subject awards, bronze, silver, gold awards and to Kyle T. for achieving the first ‘Senior Leadership Pupil of the Week Award’ this year.
This week the students at Dean Street received their eagerly awaited iPads. Thank you Mr Dec for all of your hard work with the iPad project, they have been really well received. I worked with Amaan assessing his Maths this week using the iPad..
Mr Coldwell’s class have also been getting familiar with the iPads..
Kieran, James and Shaun have shown great resilience in not getting involved in negative behaviours. The students who have not shown the best behaviour have been accepting of the consequences and completed their repair/restorative time.
Whilst it has been a tricky week, Mr Coldwell’s class are still trying hard to achieve their points and rewards. Let’s see some more percentages getting higher still next week boys – I challenge you!
Mr Hopkins is very pleased with how hard everyone worked last term in PE and he has an update for us here. He is also delighted that the John Muir Award the boys started in September is proving to be a big success and you can find out here where their exploring took them last half term – here’s a clue…
If you missed our last blog posted over the holidays sharing all our Christmas activities and end of term work, you can still see it here – there are lots of wonderful pictures!
So, the first week back has been eventful, busy and has flown by. I hope that you all have a good weekend ready for the next week of learning here at the academy.
