In today’s world, technology is everywhere. It plays a pivotal part in our children’s lives. 

At Spring Brook Lower, we want to model and educate our pupils on how to use technology positively, responsibly and safely. 

We want our pupils to be creators not consumers and our broad curriculum encompassing Digital Literacy, Computer Programming and IT/ Multimedia reflects this. 

We recognise that technology can allow pupils to engage with learning in creative ways and help enable them to become more independent learners. We also understand the accessibility opportunities technology can provide for our pupils and we are proud that every child in school has an iPad as part of our 121 MAT-wide Apple initiative.

We want our pupils to:

• be fluent with a range of tools to best express their understanding

• have a good understanding of how to keep themselves safe online

• have acquired a range of transferable computer skills in relation to using Apple and Microsoft programmes effectively

• be able to be creative with multimedia

Clear and Effective Curriculum – Our computing curriculum is a clear and effective scheme of work that provides coverage in line with the National Curriculum, as well as our own Dashboard Outcomes. 

Use of iPads – Each pupil has an iPad to use throughout the school day to aid learning. Pupils have access to the hardware (iPads, programmable equipment/spheros) and software that they need to develop knowledge and skills of digital systems and their applications.

e-safety and Parental Involvement 

Pupils will be given opportunities to discuss the importance of being safe online. They will have opportunities to complete the e-safety SMART award.

Parents are informed when issues relating to online safety arise and further information/support is provided if required.

Assessment 

Computing objectives are assessed on the Dashboard against the National Curriculum with teachers uploading data after every unit covered.
